JetBlue cancelled your flight. Are you owed a refund?
Free check: what JetBlue owes you
Two minutes, built from the DOT rules. Then, if you want, one flat $14.99 for the letters. You keep 100% of any refund.
Check my cancelled JetBlue flight (free)If JetBlue cancels a flight and you choose not to travel, or turn down the rebooking, credit or voucher offered, the DOT refund rule says you get your money back. Not compensation on top: a refund of what you paid.
When the refund is due
- JetBlue cancelled the flight (a cancellation always counts as a refund trigger under 14 CFR 260.6).
- You didn't fly on the cancelled booking, and you didn't accept another flight, a travel credit or a voucher.
- It doesn't matter why it was cancelled: weather and air traffic control cancellations still trigger the refund.
What has to be refunded
- The fare, plus the taxes and government fees on the ticket.
- Fees for extras you paid for and couldn't use, such as seat selection or bag fees.
- To your original form of payment (cash or card), unless you agree to something else.
Automatic, and on a deadline
Since the 2024 DOT rule, refunds that are due should be issued automatically, without you having to ask. The money is due within 7 business days if you paid by credit card, or within 20 calendar days for other payment methods. If it doesn't arrive, a written demand that quotes the rule usually moves things along.
JetBlue's Customer Bill of Rights also sets out its own delay credits.
If you accepted rebooking
If you flew on the replacement flight, the refund rule generally no longer applies to the ticket. You may still be owed extras you paid for but didn't get, and whatever JetBlue promises for delays it caused.
Money-back guarantee. If the airline denies your claim within 60 days, we refund your $14.99. See terms
Questions
- Does JetBlue have to refund a cancelled flight?
- Yes, if you didn't travel and didn't accept a rebooking, credit or voucher. 14 CFR 260.6 requires a full refund of the fare, taxes and unused paid extras to your original payment method.
- Do I get compensation as well as the refund?
- Not under federal law. The US has no rule that pays cash compensation just because a flight was cancelled. Airlines may promise meals, hotels or credits for cancellations within their control; check the DOT dashboard.
- How long does the airline have to pay?
- The refund is due within 7 business days if you paid by credit card, or within 20 calendar days for other payment methods.
